Breeding & genetics

How pasture breeding, IV/nature/ability inheritance and shiny odds work in this pack, read straight from the Cobbreeding config.

How pasture breeding works

Put two compatible Pokémon roaming in the same Pasture Block and press its breeding toggle. While it's on, a compatible pair lays an egg roughly every 7–15 minutes real time, up to 3 eggs held in the pasture's bottom inventory at once (a hopper can pull them out automatically). Take an egg into a player's inventory to start its hatch timer — it only counts down while someone is actually carrying it.

This is added by the Cobbreeding mod, a side-mod for Cobblemon's own pasture roaming. Every number on this page is read straight from this instance's config/cobbreeding/main.json and config/cobblemon/main.json, so it stays accurate if COBBLEVERSE changes them.

Who can breed with who

Special cases this pack's data still honours: a Nidoran♀/Nidoran♂ pairing can hatch either sex of Nidoran, same for Volbeat/Illumise; Manaphy paired with Ditto hatches Phione (never another Manaphy); a handful of regional-form evolution lines (Sirfetch'd, Cursola, Obstagoon, Runerigus, Clodsire, Overqwil, Sneasler, Perrserker, Basculegion) are hard-coded so the egg hatches the correct regional baby instead of the wrong-region default.

What hatches

The egg always hatches into the base, pre-evolution species of one of the two parents — never the evolved form you actually bred. It copies the regional form of the female parent (or, when breeding with Ditto, of the non-Ditto parent): breed a Galarian-line female and the egg is the Galarian baby, even if the father is the Kantonian form.

Hatch time depends on the baby species' own eggCycles — shown as Hatch time on every Pokémon's page — at this pack's hatch multiplier of (1 cycle = 10 real minutes at ×1). A 20-cycle egg like Bulbasaur's takes about 10 minutes.

Breeding for perfect IVs

Every egg inherits 3 IVs from its parents at random (picked stat-by-stat, from a random parent each time) — the other 3 are rolled completely fresh, 0–31. Two items push the odds toward a flawless (all-31) hatchling:

ItemGuarantees
Power WeightHP
Power BracerAttack
Power BeltDefense
Power LensSp. Atk
Power BandSp. Def
Power AnkletSpeed

Best setup: give one parent a Destiny Knot and the other a Power item for the stat you care most about — that's 5 inherited IVs per egg, one of them locked in, from just two 31-IV (or better) breeding parents. Hatch enough eggs and re-pair the best-rolling offspring back into the pasture to climb toward 6/6 over a few generations.

Nature

Everstone held by a parent passes that parent's own Nature to every egg from that pairing. If both parents hold one, the egg copies whichever parent's Everstone is picked at random. No Everstone in play means a fully random Nature, same as a wild hatch.

Abilities, including Hidden Ability

The female parent (or the non-Ditto parent, when breeding with Ditto) decides the egg's ability slot:

Ability Capsule and Ability Patch remain the reliable fallback: catch or hatch anything with the right species and Ability Patch it straight to Hidden, no breeding needed.

Egg moves & Mirror Herb

Any move either parent currently knows or has ever been able to learn is taught to the egg for free, as long as the baby species can normally learn it as an egg move — no need to keep it in either parent's actual moveset.

Mirror Herb works the other way round: hold it on a Pokémon sitting in a pasture (checked every 30s) and it picks up egg moves directly from any other Pokémon roaming the same pasture, even one outside its Egg Group — useful for loading an egg move onto a parent from something it could never actually breed with, then breeding that parent normally afterward to pass the move on.

Poké Ball

The egg is caught in the female parent's Ball (the non-Ditto parent's, when Ditto is involved) — unless both parents are the same species, in which case it's a random pick between the two. A Cherish Ball or Master Ball never carries over; those eggs default to a plain Poké Ball.

Shiny hunting

This pack's base shiny chance is 1 in 2048. Cobbreeding stacks up to three configured methods on top, each one dividing the odds (so they multiply together, not add):

ParentsOdds per egg
Neither parent shiny, same trainer1 in 256
One parent shiny, same trainer1 in 128
Both parents shiny, same trainer1 in 64
Neither parent shiny, different trainers (Masuda)1 in 128
One parent shiny, different trainers1 in 64
Both parents shiny, different trainers1 in 32

None of these methods alone reach a guaranteed shiny in this pack's config — they only shorten the odds.

Putting it together: a genetically perfect Pokémon

  1. Get two breedable parents of the species you want (or one plus a Ditto), opposite genders, sharing an Egg Group.
  2. For IVs: one parent holds Destiny Knot, the other holds the Power item for the stat you most want locked in. Keep hatching and swap in any offspring that rolled better than a current parent.
  3. For Nature: whichever parent already has the Nature you want holds Everstone.
  4. For the Hidden Ability: breed from a Hidden-Ability female, or skip straight to Ability Patch on a regular hatch.
  5. For egg moves: make sure a parent knows the move (via Mirror Herb first if needed) before breeding.
  6. For shiny: breed same-species shinies together, ideally with different Original Trainers, for the best odds this pack offers — see the table above.

Every item on this page — Power items, Destiny Knot, Everstone, Ability Capsule/Patch, Mirror Herb — is also a regular Cobblemon held item, so check the Items list for where a pastured Pokémon might drop one.
